Despite what they say, Intuit doesn't really support converting QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop anymore, and they take days to do it for you when "known issues" arise. After waiting a week for Intuit, I gave this product a try, and had my file in desktop in less than an hour with no issues at all.

This app is amazing. It works. No more having to use Intuit's archaic way of moving back to desktop. That way doesn't work anyway!! With Covid, we've had a too many clients close their doors. What to do with the data? I've been paying for QuickBooks Online subscriptions waiting for Intuit data services to help. Who uses IE or even has a Windows 7 machine anymore? This app did the job seamlessly, effortlessly and accurately. OMG! It's a life-saver. I highly recommend this app when you need to save your data or move back to desktop. Can't say enough great things about it. As a Top 10 ProAdvisor, this app is GREAT.

ExportMyBooks.com is a dependable, easy to use app for downloading a copy of your QuickBooks Online file and converting it to a QuickBooks Desktop file. As an accountant, I like to keep a back-up copy of QuickBooks when my clients close their business. That way if they get audited, we have much of the info we'll need.

ExportMyBooks.com eliminates the hassle of QuickBooks Online's built-in export features. ExportMyBooks.com does not require QuickBooks or Internet Explorer to create the back-up file. It's simple to connect ExportMyBooks.com as an app (two button clicks) - though you have to be the Master Administrator and use a QuickBooks Online account that is not an Accountant User.

Once the app is connected, it will ask you for the balance date. ExportMyBooks.com will condense all of the transactions before that date so that you will only have the detail transactions after that date. In my case, ExportMyBooks.com took just under an hour to create the back-up file. You are able to exit the website while it works.

When I returned to download the file, I clicked Download it downloaded a zipped folder with a single file named CompanyFile.qbw into my Downloads folder. You could rename and move the file to wherever you'd like.

ExportMyBooks.com also provides a report of any differences between the online and desktop debit and credit totals and errors it runs into. I clicked the file and my 2019 QuickBooks Accountant version started automatically. When you open the file, you'll need to set a password. If you don't have a copy of the desktop version, don't worry, your auditor will. :) Conversely, using the built-in export feature within QuickBooks Online is time-consuming and difficult. It relies on Internet Explorer, which doesn't play nice with QuickBooks Online. IE has to be set up just right (I had to hire an IT specialist to figure that out for me.) IE often doesn't work with QuickBooks Online at all. It requires having the desktop version to convert the downloaded file and takes up a lot of computing power for upwards of an hour to convert it and your computer is pretty much useless while it works. Go with ExportMyBooks.com instead!

Intuit is full of advisors and helpers who look up old articles in their "knowledgebase" and come up with the wrong answers. Although Intuit will tell you differently, there is no way to move QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online to a new QuickBooks Online without use of a third party app. This one did the trick to get to QuickBooks Desktop perfectly. yes, it seems to have really worked perfectly. I only need to re-reconcile. All the lists, transactions, inventory, bills, invoices, etc ALL EXPORTED! which is unprecedented in my 13 years of working with QuickBooks products.

This tool is so much better than the native Intuit tool. I was able to cleanly export five separate QuickBooks Online client accounts to a QuickBooks Desktop backup. It can take overnight for some companies depending how much data but you can start the export then return the next day and the download option will be there. All of the companies except for one matched the data between QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop perfectly on a cash or accrual basis. The one company that had any issues was minor and likely because they file came from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online many years ago then back to QuickBooks Desktop and it's still matched when looking at all dates.

I would highly recommend this too. It sure beats spending hours on the phone with Intuit support only to have them escalate the export to their data support to do it for you then waiting days for that backup to get sent back. The only downside is that you can not export a cancelled QuickBooks Online account--the account has to have an active subscription.
